The Following Programs listed were Vital to my growth!

Programs that helped me

There are many people from so many programs that helped me grow. The following listed programs had important roles that came together to produce a better outcome in my life. A better outcome than that which was suggested by doctors at a young nonverbal age.  Weekly I had social opportunities, exercise and  physical activity, emotional reprieve, and gained invaluable tools I need to succeed throughout life. Each program fulfilled a need and purpose that gave me understanding, confidence, encouragement and more. My family followed through with all requests made by these loving people and now: I am an A student, I have sat in the student council, I am a stellar school community member that teachers are happy to have in class, I can speak publicly, I am polite, caring, and have extensive knowledge in many sport activities from my participation. I have preformed vocals in front of schools, volunteered to teach at my church, I have been in a parade riding horses. I approach challenges with skills I learned from all of these programs. I am forever grateful for all those people who came together to help me become a better person with a hope for a great future.

Miss Gretchen Blossom and Sara Seely, were Early 5 teachers that continually check on my life progress because they too see greatness in me!

Disabled sports eastern sierra

DSES specializes in helping athletes of all abilities get out and get active!  Finding out that you can do things you put your mind and effort to. Having a person to guide you through fears so you can accomplish many goals! Knowing they are there to support you and teach skills that go beyond any sport is my favorite part of DSES. I met so many people of different abilities. I Camped, hiked, biked, swam, skied cross country and alpine, we kayaked, ran track, fished, and I have friendships with many athletes and coaches. I was grateful to have 10 wonderful years of active outdoor experiences! DSES gave me access to outdoor activities that I may never have enjoyed and I became confident in many sports.  I may never have known my love for the outdoors without DSES. I love them for that! Thank you, DSES!

    Freedom in Motion (FIM)

I wanted to be a cowgirl long before we found FIM. I had no idea how much I needed horses in my life! Riding horses changed my life! I grew confident, strong , and became a leader through Carol's lessons. There are so many life lessons you understand when you are taking care of your horse and preparing your horse for the ride. Carol is amazing! No nonsense and loving , Carol was the perfect combination to build my confidence and understanding! I still ride with my best friend Madison!

      Strive Behavioral Intervention

Strive Behavioral Intervention (Strive) was an important part of my success as well. I received Applied Behavioral Analysis on a weekly basis to encourage my growth. Kelly and her therapists made in home visits to start me on my path of learning. Withe Strive I became aware of social and community accepted behaviors. I had continuity and intentional changes in my program that kept my progress on track! My first few years were tough because my mother had to learn to change her behavior as well.  I screamed and fussed and hated changes. Kelly had the right treatment plans and activities created to encourage my growth. Kelly's staff members were key to evaluating, executing activities, and helping me understand needed changes. This  Strive ABA therapy in tandem with FIM horse therapy and DSES activities outdoor on a weekly basis created a place for my mind to "rest" during activity.  Rest, yes. I was constantly overstimulated by regular life activities and these programs gave me focus and a set of weekly goals. Goals that I was determined to achieve. It is a tough process to understand but as a young person with autism I can look back at videos and stories told about me. I spoke after years of non verbal communication. I went from constant screaming and stereo typical autistic behaviors to becomes a great loving, compassionate, and caring person. My mother told me the first thing I said to her was, " I don't know where I went but I am here now mommy."

Strive and my other programs gave me access to people who understood that I needed time to think, process, learn, and be loved.
